Groundbreaking ceremony for Auburn University’s new freshman-only classroom facility on Friday, February 7
AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn University will be unveiling plans for its brand-new freshman-only classroom facility at 10 a.m. this coming Friday, February 7 at the groundbreaking ceremony located on the green space just east of Jordan-Hare Stadium.
This facility will host nearly 50,000 square feet of instructional space for new students that will include the latest and greatest technology, group study areas and a coffee shop that will provide space for students to socialize with like peers. Freshman coordinator Carter Rains says, “this space will become a safe haven for new students still trying to adjust and will give them an opportunity to cultivate friendships in a controlled environment that promises comfort and understanding.”
Research on this concept has consistently shown that freshman students perform better when they have the opportunity to study and learn in groups with their peers rather than a classroom setting mixed with upper class-men. “The development of this space will be a great way to provide students and their parents with peace of mind knowing they will be able to adjust and ease into their new reality. This is a wonderful opportunity to market and showcase Auburn’s already safe and accommodating campus as well,” says freshman professor Caroline Ferguson.
The facility complies with LEED standards, a pledge that reinforces Auburn University’s own pledge to hold sustainability at the top of its priority list and to use it as one of the guiding principles on Auburn’s campus.
Auburn University president Jay Gogue will be available for comment at the event and will be speaking on the research that has been conducted concerning freshman success in different environments.
The project is currently planned with a start date of February 10 with completion foreseen at the beginning of fall semester 2022.
